Ruba Saqr is a journalist, PR consultant and columnist who happens to be an award-winning singer-songwriter. Hailing from a Syrian Sufi family (from her mother's side), Saqr spent most of her life in Jordan. She last served as the managing editor of one of Jordan's leading English-speaking magazines, previously writing for newspapers like The Jordan Times and Arabic-speaking UK-based Al Hayat newspaper. She also worked as a PR director at one of Amman's leading publicity firms.
On the music scene, she won an international UNESCO music award in 2007, and toured the UK and several Arab countries with Music Matbakh (brining her to a "Kasr el Azm" performance July last year). In Syria, Saqr sang solo tracks for several Syrian TV productions, including Mulook Al Tawa'ef, directed by Hatem Ali, and made her first vocal contribution to a Syrian movie directed by Haytham Haqqi, "Al Tajallee Al Akheer Li Ghaylan Al Dimashqi," in 2008.
She is currently Forward Magazine's associate editor-in-chief, having moved very recently to her mother's homeland.
