Syria Banker '09 - Special Guide
Syria’s Comprehensive Banking Pages
Leading financial institutions in Syria are invited to come together in one comprehensive guide about the banking sector in the country, the recent developments it has witnessed and the role the banking and financial sectors play in advancing the economic growth of Syria. Against the backdrop of the recent credit crunch that has hit the US – rippling through other countries worldwide – we believe this supplement is here to shed light on the stability of the banking sector in Syria, through substantiated growth figures and a fair demonstration of future programs that your esteemed establishments have for Syria. Establishments introducing new trends in microfinance and other similar programs will benefit greatly from highlighting their cutting-edge, development-enhancing products as we predict this supplement will turn into a reprint-able guide to Syria’s strides in advancing its economy beyond familiar boundaries.

Syria Banker '09: The perfect timing
Syria is at the threshold of a major economic reform and liberalization wave. The debate for further privatization moves is at an all time high, and Europe in particular seems to be leading a forthcoming campaign to release Syria from a decade or so of an imposed economic embargo enforced by the US. The banking and financial sector is at the helm of the change wave expected to filter through due to major upcoming international agreements expected in the near future. At a critical time when Syria has already signed by the initials the Syria-EU Association Agreement, we believe it is the right time for us at Forward Magazine to shed light for the local and global communities on what Syria has to offer in economic terms. Syria has also recently launched the Damascus Securities Exchange (DSE), and is keeping its eyes on the creation of Majlis al-Shura (Parliament’s upper house), two steps that we believe are to the advantage of the banking and monetary environment in the country.
