Sami Moubayed is a Syrian political analyst, journalist, and author based in Damascus, Syria. His articles on Middle East affairs have appeared in a variety of newspapers, including al-Ahram Weekly, Gulf News, The Daily Star, and Asia Times and an online panel with The Washington Post. He is the author of several books on modern Syria.
He currently teaches at the Faculty of International Relations at al-Kalamoun University in Syria. He is also Editor-in-Chief of FORWARD, the leading English monthly in Syria, and Vice-President of Haykal Media. Over the last ten-years, Moubayed has interviewed leading regional and international figures, like German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Lebanese President Elias Hrawi.
He is the author of four books on modern Syria, the last being "Steel & Silk: Men and Women Who Shaped Syria 1900-2000" published in the US in 2005. In 2005, he co-created Syrianhistory.com (now a part of Haykal Media) an online musuem of over 3,000 photos and documents on contemporary Syrian affairs. He is a Research Fellow at St. Andrews University in Scotland.
